Well, whaddya know - a squirrel lying flat! Who’d have thought it? I mean, you don’t usually see these little critters just chillin’ out like that. It’s kinda funny, but kinda weird too. Anyways, there it was - just lying there on its back with its little paws up in the air. Talk about an unexpected sight!

Well, the squirrel’s gotta cool off somehow! Lying flat on a cool surface helps it do just that. It dissipates body heat, so the blood vessels near the surface of its skin can be in contact with something cooler than the air around it. Pretty clever, huh?
Position: The squirrel should be lying flat on its stomach, with its legs tucked in close to its body.
Tail: The tail should be curled up around the squirrel’s body, or laid out flat behind it.
Ears: The ears should be slightly raised and alert, as if the squirrel is listening for something nearby.
Eyes: The eyes should be open and looking forward, as if the squirrel is curious about what lies ahead of it.
Mouth: The mouth should be closed and relaxed, with no signs of distress or agitation present in the facial expression of the animal.
